WHAT MY PHONE CAPTURES
WHAT MY PHONE CAPTURES is an ongoing personal project of mine in which I am looking into how my photography skills and style for the way I shoot on camera relate to the everyday use of my camera on my phone. This project doesn’t follow any particular subject or subjects; it focuses mainly on things in life that I am interested in or that capture my eye and make me want to quickly snap there and then. The series is in black and white because we live in a society that revolves around social media, and at times we think we see the bright and colourful side of the world from the hand-held screen in our hands, but I believe that it doesn’t do it justice, so if you want to see the coloured versions of this project, you’ll just have to go outside and see for yourself.
This project came from a sense of feeling that, even though I love to take images and capture moments when I have my camera on and around me, I’ve never really been a person who pulls out their phone in moments. My camera roll is full of the most random screenshots and photos of shopping receipts. When I don't have a camera, I instead just kind of live in the moment, which is great because life is too short to be constantly looking down or through a phone. I realise there are so many different things and moments that I am missing out on sharing with people, loved ones, and friends that I decided that I wanted to start this project in hopes that over time I can come back to this project and look at all the photos and be able to link them to a moment, a feeling, or a person.
